February 2014

In the context of the Pop Art Exhibition from February through May 2014 an art gallery in Munich presented 21 works by Helmut Lutter for the first time. The innovative newcomer shapes unique, gigantic and spectacular 3-D metal relief works of art that play with the sensuousness of the metal. His works are, as in the tradition of pop art, inspired by comics and real people and influenced, in the ironical impression between art and kitsch by contemporary artists, such as Jeff Koons or Bansky. When selecting his topics, Helmut Lutter also focuses on forerunners of modernism such as Toulouse Lautrec or old masters such as Leonardo da Vinci.

In addition, he interprets, abstracts or exaggerates the well-known subjects – increasingly Helmut Lutter also makes use of collage as a stylistic media. Helmut Lutter attained the attention of a broader public in 2013 because of his colossal metal relief work of Franck Ribéry that he completed in over 300 hours of labour.
